PROUD TAGA GENSAN

I am from General Santos City, the tuna capital of the Philippines.Does the name Manny Pacquiao ring a bell? Yes Indeed Manny is from General Santos City. A very famous boxer who beat Oscar dela hoya,Erik morales etc ( I will not go into details because I have no idea about this sports) I never met him in person,I just saw his house and it was huge!A lot of people said that Manny started working when he was a young boy as a "laborer" in Gensan's old fishport. Many speculated that it was vital why Manny became a very good boxer that he is.I really don't care why he is so great,I just know that I'm so proud of him.He gives Philippines a good name. Everytime he has a fight there is zero crime rate in PI.Take note zero crime rate!I remembered when I was still in PI,everytime Manny fights the streets are so quite. All the Taxi, jeepney, tricyle, trisikad drivers are either at home or at restaurants watching the fight on tv. Everytime he wins the country celebrates. He will fight again in November. I don't like watching boxing because I think it's too violent but for Manny I will. I want to cheer for him.I hope he will win once again.

What Manny gave General Santos City is a good publicity. More and more people noticed my small city. Before Manny, a lot of people from the visayas and luzon regions don't know where Gensan is.When Manny came into picture,I have people come up to me and asked me " you're from Gensan? Isn't that where Manny Pacquiao is?" It just makes me smile.

Not only Gensan made headlines because of Manny Pacquiao and its modern fishport with its vast array of tuna, it also made headlines when it was one of the cities hit by bombing explosions.I don't remember how many times it was victimized by such terroristic attacks. I only remember 3 incidents. The first one was, I was with my sister in the internet cafe when we heard a very loud sound that It shaked the floor. We heard people screaming outside, one of the customers got a text saying the city hall was bombed ( the cafe was less than a mile from the city hall)some customers left, but my sister care less. She was still chatting online..GOsh. I had to pull her our from her chair and forced her to go home with me.The second occasion was I was at my friends house when we heard in the news that the Gaizano mall was bombed. My friend and I worked at the fastfood restaurant attached to the mall.I didn't know why we reported for work the next day,and next thing I knew my fellow workers who were working the previous day were being interviwed by the abs cbn news team. The third incident was on valentine day 2005.My then fiance and husband now, was so worried for me, that he advised me to just stay at home.I was really scared that time. I feel deeply for those who were killed and their families.
There are still threats to its safety. Some people are still scared to visit it knowing its in Mindanao and knowing how vulnerable it is to terroristic activities. To me it's my home.No matter how far my heart and feet take me I will always come back to it. to be continued.
